Watch Ted Freeze Again!
Dear friends, family and people I don’t mind asking for support,
Some of you may remember that last year I spent the night outside in downtown Petaluma with only a sleeping bag and a tarp as a demonstration to homeless youth that we can’t stay inside for one more night while so many remain outside. I still haven’t thawed out from last year but the experience was so eye opening and humbling that I am doing it again!
On November 8, I donning my requisite shorts and a t-shirt will once again be sleeping outside for one night to advocate for the 657 young people under the age of 25 who are experiencing homelessness in our community right now. Youth are still the most unsheltered homeless population in Sonoma County - This year, youth homelessness has increased by 29% in Sonoma County.
The young people I’m sleeping out for may be escaping years of physical abuse, a dangerous human trafficking ring, a drug-addicted parent, a house overflowing with rage, or may have “aged-out” of the foster care system with little to no resources for success. And guess what? Most young people experiencing homelessness are unseen by you and me every day. They are sleeping on couches or in a broken down car, or they’re trying to stay safe in remote places of the county that are unfit and dangerous for humans, especially young people, to live in - 93% will sleep outside tonight, vulnerable and alone.
Social Advocates for Youth’s services help homeless and disconnected youth stabilize their lives, find safe housing, access mental health care, and develop the skills to become contributing members of our local workforce.
Today I ask you to help me support the work of Social Advocates for Youth and give homeless youth the tools and skills they need to achieve self-sufficiency. Please click the donate button on this page and join us in our fight to end youth homelessness in Sonoma County.
On behalf of the kids’ lives you will change with your gift, THANK YOU!
