West County

According to the 2018 Point-In-Time Homeless Census and Survey, at least 68 young people are homeless in West County right now. Young people experiencing homelessness in the Russian River area and West County have unique and multiple needs for safety net services like Social Advocates for Youth. High numbers of youth in this area identify as LGBTQ+, a factor which often leads to increased disconnection from positive adult relationships. The rural environment, transportation challenges and lack of affordable housing units require services that are tailored to meet these unique needs.

Additionally, young people in West County are often coming from generational homelessness and poverty. The lack of employment and development opportunities make it difficult for young people to stay in their community and make progress toward shifting their life trajectory.
